This is a blog about my life before I made a big move recently. I haven't released a blog in a while due to life being busy. So, I'm going to kick it back into gear with this one to catch you all up!
Written on Nov 29th -- Wow, it has been such a busy month. Between the launch of The Skwarerutz Project, 3 improv shows and a handful of days working at the Speakeasy in addition to my day job, I have been trying my best to continue on through this melancholy chapter of life. Plus, we have been looking for a new place to live at the start of the holiday season, among other things... Talk about a huge helping of stress for the last 45 days.
But of course, with any crazy time in life, it’s good to make the best of what has been pushed your way, or be overtaken. I consider myself a guy that is not easily overtaken by stress. So, what did I do to battle the stress and shortcomings?
Thank goodness for the Internet. Besides finding another reason to stay plugged in 24/7, I like to keep folks updated on what is going on artistically in my world. Like any artistic entity in the 21st century, it is important to keep a “groomed” web presence. As an artist, it is always difficult to stay on top of your art, as well as balance your “9to5” -- let alone keep your Facebook/Twitter/etc updated… ugh. I know. But one thing that I have learned as an artist is that every single second is as important as the next. It’s now or never.
With that said, I’m ‘bout to give you the lowdown for this last month:
Launch of The Skwarerutz Project - Just a month ago, the blog that BaqBeet used to open his cyber ‘pie-hole’ has been launched. It started on Oct. 15th…. well, kinda. This was the release date set for The Skwarerutz Project to go live. So far, it’s going pretty well. I have been more than ecstatic with the support given by my friends and family who decide to take a look at what’s goin’ on at BaqBeet.com. Since the blog’s debut, there have been various topics covered from music, to improv and on to cooking (#ShelanisKitchen.)
There is an array of new topics queued up for the next couple of months. Be sure to stay caught up at BaqBeet.com as well as Facebook / Twitter / Instgram. You can also keep up with the fun on The Skwarerutz Project Facebook Group. (We like to have a real good time over there.)
Falling Awake / Lemp Grand Hall / Lilly’s shows w/ Not Quite Right - My first year of being (in)formally introduced to the realm of improvisation on stage. I have done a bit of acting, modeling and YouTube humor over time. But, it’s a new monster to take on a crowd of folks looking at you to entertain them using nothing but your sharpened wits. Not Quite Right (STL)
October 29th, 2015 -- Falling Awake was flippin’ fantastic! So many costumes, so many crawl-spaces, so much talent and so little clothing on the final act of the night, if you know what I mean. Suspended escape artists, bands, vendors, roaming artists…. I can go on. But to say the least, ‘twas a great Thursday night in Saint Louis.
October 30th, 2015 -- hahahaha… Oh man. So, about this night. It turned out pretty great. This night reminded me of what it feels like to go to a wedding reception with all of your family/friends, right? Then, things get ramped up once your grandpa and younger cousins leave. Things got escalated at just the pace necessary to be considered Not Quite Right. THANK GOODNESS FOR THE INTERNET! We had such a great time! Three precisely inappropriate jam sessions with the talented musicians of Decades Apart backing up three players from Not Quite Right as the crowd gave suggestions for subjects to barf about. Some might say that it was the best part of the show, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. This is one of those moments when you realize that you are capable of more as an artist and decide right then to top it next time.
November 13, 2015 -- Talk about a show to remember! What better way to spend Friday the 13th than with friends at a bar laughing your tails off? The wonderful folks at Lilly’s allowed us to let loose on stage to entertain! Using the crazy suggestions given to us, we brought the perfect mix of hilarious and inappropriate humor to a great crowd of smiling faces! We have to come back and see our friends at Lilly’s for another great night of fun. There will be videos of these shows posted for your viewing pleasure.
As exhausting as it has been trying to juggle all of these things in life, staying busy helps me to stay motivated. Each passing day, I am getting stronger. Each day, I am able to take on the world with more confidence. This is the part of the process where I will look back and say “How did I find time to do all of that crap??” Then I will say “No pain, no gain.”
Thanks again to all of you that read these my blog. I am hoping to make something of my everyday adventures and keep you guys in the loop while I do it. #StayTuned For more posts about the adventures of NQR STL, go to http://www.notquiterightimprov.com/
